Nail Sizing

How to Determine Your Size and Length

Find Your Size

I. How to measure your hands for your press on nails :

What you will need to do this is a soft tape measure; or a ruler, a marker, and some clear tape.

There are three different ways to get your fingernail size numbers :

Method 1 :

Place the soft tape measure across the widest part of each finger on your natural nail. Then read the millimeters from one side to the other. Look at the chart above to find the corresponding number (0-9; now carrying sizes 10 and 11 not pictured above). Write down the number for each finger on both hands. It is important to do both hands because sometimes we can have a. Finger that is different from one hand to the other. Also, you might not have a standard size fingernail and will need a custom set made.

Method 2 :

If you don’t have a soft tape measure then :

Attach a piece of clear tape to your nail and press firmly. Then with your marker, draw a line on either side of your nail horizontally on the widest part of your natural nail.

Carefully remove the tape from your finger and place it on a smooth surface.

Then, with a ruler, measure the line for the number of millimeters. After that follow the rest of the steps above until you have all the sizes for both hands.

Method 3 :

Buy a press on nail sizing kit. They are available online.

II. How to know what size press on nails to buy :

After you have all the numbers  for each finger, correlate the measurement with the size number in the chart below to see if you are a standard size.

Standard Sizes :

L -0-4-3-5-7

M -1-6-4-5-7

S - 2-6-4-5-8

XS - 3-6-5-7-9

CHART -

If your fingernail is 18 - 17 mmm across at its' widest, then that fingernail is a size 0. The system is from 0-11 with 0 being the largest and 11 being the smallest. So, below is the mm to size number:

18-17 mm = size 0

16 mm = size 0

15 mm  = size 1

14 mm = size 2

13 mm=size 3

12 mm = size 4

11 mm = size 5

12 mm = size 6

10 mm = size 7

9 mm = size 8

8 mm = size 9

NOW CARRYING SIZES 10 AND 11

7mm =size 10

6mm=size 11

If you are not a standard size, a custom set can be made upon request by contacting me from the menu at the top of the page. It does not cost more to get a custom size. Contact me for custom sets, from the menu at the top of the page.

Now to choose the length of the nail you want. Below details length choices.

find your length

II. How to choose nail length :

The chart below is used to determine the length you want your nails.

Below is the standard nail length chart for the thumb.

Short

19 mm

Medium length   -

21 mm

Long/Regular  -

 24 mm

1X Long Nails -

 27 mm

2XL Long Nails -

30 mm

3XL Long Nails -

33 mm

4XL Long Nails -

36mm

5XL Long Nails -

39mm

6XL Long Nails -

43mm

If you are unsure what length to get most women report that  Medium length  (21mm) as being the maximum length for everyday comfort functionality, especially for people whom are not used to long nails.

Long/Regular has been reported as maximum length for real wearability.

And a mm or two does make a difference when it comes to fingernails.

If you are not used to wearing press on nails, then the first time you wear them might feel weird, but you will adjust pretty quickly. A good tip for those just starting is to is begin with the purchase of nails with a shorter length and work your way up to longer as you adjust to wearing them. At the bottom of this page are some images of examples of how different sizes look on the hand.

Each nail set in the shop will specify the size and length next to the product.

Note : If you want a different length, please contact me from the menu at the top of the page.

III. Nail Shapes

There are many nail shapes available, but the shapes that I mainly use are square-round, but sometimes I will use coffin and stiletto. I use the square-round shape because it is the best shape for functionality.

IV. Now the fun part, shopping :

Just browse around the shop, there are various pre-made standard sizes there, and some off standard sizes as well.

Also, browse the portfolio from the menu at the top of the page because you might like something there that can be made for you. Or I can create an original design. I am happy to make any theme you heart desires. Contact me from the contact page in the menu at the top of the page.

All of my nails are original copyrighted designs that are hand decorated and painted, unless other wise specified.

All nails are made with love.
